Lost

Twice this week, I heard stories about lost three year olds.

The first one by a grandmother who told me that her three year old grandson had been missing for about three hours but was just recently found. Grandma remembered that he fell asleep with the Walmart ad in his hands. He really wanted the batman cape or some such thing that he saw in the ad. And since they live across the street from Walmart, they decided to check there and they found him wandering the aisles looking for his cape. He had to cross a busy street to get there and he had pulled up a chair to unlock the front door and he put the chair back in place before he left. CPS is making the family put in a key lock deadbolt so this won't happen again.

My friend Vickie, on her way home from work, saw a little girl headed for the McDonalds down the road. She had left a housing addition and was marching down the sidewalk all alone. Vickie pulled up and asked her if she was lost. "No', she replied. When asked if she lived around here, she said 'Yes'. Then Vickie told her that she needed to go home. She turned around and headed back into the neighborhood but stopped to play with a bed of flowers. Vickie got out of her car to ask her which house she lived in and about that time a van with two frantic looking grandparents zipped around the corner. They grabbed the little girl up and said that they couldn't believe that she had gotten away so fast and threw their hands up in the air in unbelief! And then they were gone, without so much as a thank you! I am sure that they probably had no idea that she was almost at McDonalds, when Vickie had her turn around, but they didn't stick around long enough to ask her any questions.

Thankfully in both cases there were good outcomes.
