Planting a memory

Last week when we were having open house, Garry told me to pull up some irises for my yard. He, Maurine, and Joe had already done so when they were landscaping the front flowerbed. So I followed his suggestion and did just that.

Today is a beautiful day here in Texoma, so I planted my irises on the east side of my house (a much neglected side as far as landscaping goes but the same side of the house where they were at Mom and Dads, so I figured that is where they will flourish). Daddy especially loved his irises, mostly dark purple with a few baby blues tucked in here and there. So hopefully their burst of color in early spring will bring us as much pleasure as they did him. Now if only I had a gardenia bush... Daddy loved taking gardenias to the ladies at church and I still love the smell of gardenias because it reminds me of my childhood and the beautiful gardenia bushes right in front of the house. Mom would give me pickle juice to go and sprinkle on the gardenias as they liked the acidity, so after taking a few swigs of it for myself, I would douse the bushes.

Mimosa blossoms, gardenias, honeysuckles... Ahhh! The fragrance of spring from my childhood!

Its fun to hear you talking about Jon's Grandparents and what they were like. I love the part about CL talking gardenias to the ladies at church. How sweet!

I love irises too! They are so beautiful. Sounds like you will have a beautiful garden this spring too!
