New York, New York

We had a good time in NYC! Here is the run down~

Friday: As I said Wicked, The Untold Story of the Witches of Oz at the Gershwin Theater was so good. It was funny and had a moral to the story as well. Such great costumes and scenery and the witches voices were so good. I thought the "wicked witch" had such a beautiful, pure voice but the "good witch" was more operatic and her character was hilarious. We ate at Dos Camimos before heading to the theater. We thought NY Mexican food "spicy"would not be as hot as Tex Mex "spicy" but it was.

Saturday: Rain, so we changed our plans and went to the museums. First the Museum of Modern Art or MOMA as it is often referred to in NYC. Kara and I are inspired to become artist as some of the things that pass for art were just insane. Two white pieces of typing paper framed together. One had Miss Saigon typed in the middle of the page and then the word corrected and the other the name of another Broadway show with same correction. That is art? Crazy! We did get to see Monet's Water Lillies and Van Gogh's Starry Night among many others.

Then we took a taxi to the Guggenheim Museum. This was when the guidebooks came in handy. They suggested that we take an elevator to the top and walk down the slope to see all the art. Great suggestion. They had an exhibit of Kandinsky's art. Very interesting. We also saw many Picasso's here. From here we went to the American Museum of Natural History, ridiculously huge and famous for being where "Night at the Museum" movies were based. We toured St. Patrick's Cathedral also and ate at Ray's Pizza.

Sunday: Went to the Empire State Building and saw their video tour, I wouldn't spend $ to see it, but it was included with our New York Pass. We definitely got our monies worth out of it. We shopped at Macy's and then Century 21 which was a nightmare, it was so busy! It was like a Christmas rush there. Then we went and toured the Hudson River on the Circle Line Cruise. This was their City Lights tour and because we were there on the 100th anniversary of the Manhattan Bridge, we got a bonus of fireworks in the middle of our tour. We ate dinner at Carmines in Times Square, Penne with Vodka Sauce and garlic bread that tasted like a deluxe cheese pizza. Yum! We were too full to try the Titanic dessert that had been recommended to us. On our way back to the hotel, we stopped to go to the Top of the Rock, Rockefeller Center. The night view of the city was so dazzling! And Kara looked down to a balcony below us and they were filming something. A roustabout was on the top with us and he was trying to get everyone to not take flash photos so it would show in their filming. Mark Walberg and Lindsey Sloane were the actors that we saw and they had a dinner scene for the movie to be out next year, The Other Guy. The roustabout was a nice guy from Austin,Texas and we had a nice visit with him. His mother was the hairdresser for the movie and that's how he got his job.

Monday: We took the NBC tour and then the Grayline double decker bus tour. We got off at Battery Park and went to see the Statue of Libery and Ellis Island. We stopped at Canal Street and shopped for a while. Everything got to looking all the same, so we didn't stay long. Then we went back to the Grayline tour and took their night light tour of the city. We ate at Pax Whole Foods and got a yummy cheese cake from Junior's to take back to the hotel, Affinia 50 to eat it before hitting the sack for an early alarm.

Tuesday: We got up early and went to see the Today Show. We saw Anne Curry, Meredith Vierra, Al Roker and Natalie Morales. A special guest was there too. Kristen Davis, Charlotte from Sex in the City fame. We got a free gift sack from CVS with flu prevention items. Al got his flu shot while we were there.
Then we went to Bloomingdales, Dylan's Candy Bar and we had to buy another piece of luggage to get everything home. Really, we were just tired of carrying our packages and it was worth it to just wheel everything around. We discovered Daffy's Department store almost too late. It was a real neat store, discount quality brands. I would have liked to spend more time there but we had to head back to our hotel because our time to exit the city was upon us. Kara was a great tour guide!
